When I'm Wrong, I Admit it
I may as well be a man and 'fess up. I said some critical things here a while back, and it looks like I just didn't have the facts right. It's embarrassing, but I have to clear this up.
I was wrong...when I said I was disappointed in my new lager.
Whew. There.
Yes, I slandered myself and my new beer. In fact, I AM the king of all homebrewers, and my beer is great.
I thought it was all wrong, because the hops were over the top and the color was dark orange and it was too heavy and sweet, but now it has been in the keg long enough to get its act together, and it has turned into a real ballbuster. The sweetness leveled off, and I got used to the powerful flavor. I'm saving this recipe, for sure.
I also think it's delightfully strong. Seems like every time I have a glass, I get surprisingly buzzed.
I gave up on the nutty idea of opening a microbrewery, so you are welcome to the recipe:
8 lbs. 2-row pale ale malt
1.25 60L crystal malt
1 lb. Munich malt
.75 oz. Nugget hops boiled for 75 minutes, 12.1% AAU
.5 oz. Crystal hops boiled for 45 minutes, 4.5% AAU
1 oz. Crystal hops, steeped after boil
Irish moss
Wyeast Bavarian lager yeast, #2206
Mash for 30 minutes at 130, then 60 minutes at 150. Primary for 3 weeks at 50 degrees. Secondary at 50 for one week. Then do your lagering thing.
The crystal malt was supposed to be CaraPils, but I ran out.
Really brutal beer. I'm drinking it right now with a tasty Ramon Allones Specially Selected. I hope heaven is like this.
