Making Waves
And Not Much Else
This will make your day. I know you will be just as entertained and excited as I am. I built a FUNCTION GENERATOR last night!
Calm down! I know it's great news, but you have to maintain your composure.
I've been fooling around with electronics lately, trying to brush up on the things I learned in college, and a while back, I Ebayed a used oscilloscope and some other fun items. But I needed some sort of signal in order to tell whether the oscilloscope worked. So I bought the parts for a function generator and put it together.
Then I hooked up to the oscilloscope, and it made PRETTY WAVY LINES!
You may be asking yourself what good that is, and whether I have heard of TV and books. Hey, I got a big charge out of it. Don't question it.
I'm so cool I can barely stand myself. I need an entourage.
The kit included a tube containing a coil of solder. I had never seen one of those before. I was used to the long spools of solder. And this stuff didn't have the familiar piney smell. But it seemed to work okay.
I fixed up my work area so the tool cabinet is at a right angle to the workbench, and I added a magnifying desk lamp, and now when I need a screwdriver or whatever, I just turn to my right, pull out a drawer, and THERE IT IS! No more rooting through kitchen drawers or giving up and driving to Sears.
I guess only a tiny percentage of my readers--all of them male--will understand how great this is. I don't care.
Now, if I could just find something to DO with this stuff.
