Rob Smith Passes Away
The Fight is Over
This is shocking. Rob Smith's daughter says he was found dead this morning at 2:00 a.m, on his couch.
I guess he carried out the threat he made on Saturday. It's not clear yet what happened, but the timing makes it pretty unlikely that it was anything but suicide.
Rob was a real writer. Nothing was hidden. He said things about himself that I would hesitate to reveal about my worst enemy. I read his site even when I forgot to read sites belonging to close friends. He was a true original.
That being said, I think he could have spared us his goodbye entry. His ex-wife may have deserved it, but no one else did. Especially not his daughter. Nor his grandmother.
I always hoped he would get a grip on his problems and come up for air at long last. I included him in my prayers; I hoped he would eventually turn to God for help with his burdens. It seemed to me that no one else was strong enough to help a man who had so many misfortunes to contend with. I am sorely disappointed to learn that it didn't work out.
I wish him peace. Finally. Some people simply are not wired right to hold up for the long haul. I wish it were not so, but there it is.
