Food Briefing
Horrendous
I already cooked my first dish of the day. Macaroni and cheese. I think I wrote the recipe down wrong, though, because it says to put 9 ounces of cheese in the sauce, and I put in more like 18.
The macaroni comes out of the oven in a few minutes, and then I'll set it aside and get the corn ready for roasting. After that, I have nothing to do but wait around until it's time to eat.
The brownies came out perfectly. I ate half of one as a test sample, and my knees nearly gave out. My recipe is based on a recipe by an old broad named Maida Heatter, and her recipe won some prize or other. I can't understand why she didn't go all the way, like I do. She didn't use nearly enough butter and sugar. And she used walnuts, which are WAY too bitter to put in brownies.
The layer of coconut was my idea. As was doping the coconut with extra butter and sugar. As were the chocolate chips.
I think I'm going to save the fat from every turkey I cook from now on and use it when I make fries. It really adds something to the flavor. As for using pure beef fat, it's great, but you can get satisfactory results even if it only makes up a fourth or fifth of your grease.
The oven should be dinging any time now. Time to close.
