Time to Manage the Buzz
I think the adrenaline gave out an hour ago. Now I'm sitting here fielding emails and comments.
Again, I appreciate all the support. Maybe every kid with a family that doesn't back him up in life should get a blog. It helps to hear that people appreciate you.
I'm amused to note that Lucianne's site drives book sales harder than Fox News. How about that? I can't thank Bill Hemmer enough for asking for me, and I'm not knocking the show. It was a tremendous present for Fox to hand me. I'm still stunned. But how about that Lucianne?
I'm hoping the PR people at Kensington are going crazy now, taking the book seriously and trying to line things up for me. That would be great. I think my pick-up team has done a fantastic job, but eventually, I think a professional publicist has to take charge.
I figure I'm in for a slump now. Most people probably bought the book online, so that means they won't receive it until next week. If the book is going to make people laugh and create its own buzz, it won't be until people have read it.
I hate to see that Amazon figure slide! But I know that without advance publicity, it has to happen.
When heavily pimped books come out, the reviews precede them or follow the releases closely. If the reviews are bad, they aren't very helpful. But if they're good the book will be poised to dominate the charts right off the bat. In fact, Maddox's book did exactly that. He pimped it in advance via his email list.
In my situation, I have to push the car from a dead stop, over and over, until the engine catches. So sales are going to be bumpy.
I just got an email about the book, and it looks like reorders are already coming in from booksellers. I am told this is rare, for someone who isn't a bestselling author. That's a good sign. Although I'm starting to think a Lucianne link could do that for titles like Cook Like a Brit and The Michael Moore Two-Minute Workout.
Maybe we got enough copies out to generate momentum. That would sure be nice.
