Pepper Madness
Wear a Respirator When You Enter my Yard
I was worried that my Scotch bonnets might be habaneros. So I ordered some seeds. And I got a little carried away. Here is what's on the way.
1. Jamaican Red Scotch bonnets. These confused me, because the site where I got them said they were c. annuum instead of c. chinense, which is the species habaneros and Scotch bonnets belong to. But I think they're the right ones. They certainly look right, and other than the questionable nomenclature, they description of the flavor is right.
2. Caribbean Red habaneros. Supposedly a very nice, bright red habanero.
3. Tepin. Tiny, explosive Mexican chilies.
4. White habaneros. Weird.
5. Yellow habaneros. Pretty.
6. Jamaican Hot Chocolate peppers. A brown pepper that looks sort of like a habanero. Supposedly good in mole sauces. How could I resist?
Not sure where I'll put them. I think two big ornamental pots for the Caribbean Red and the Jamaican Red. Maybe the rest will go in the yard. Perhaps a hanging bucket for the white habanero.
I'm not worried about them. Down here, you can't hardly keep peppers from growing. As long as they get water once in a while, they should thrive.
And the great thing is, pepper plants live forever. And I should be able to save seed, if I bag the blossoms or whatever. I have to read up on that.
If I can't find happiness with that assortment, I deserve to starve.
