HELP!

Okay, someone tell me how to remove the safety lever from a Romak III. I know you rotate the lever up and push it out, but it hangs on a projection on the back of the trigger. The remedy for this is to pull the trigger and get more clearance, but I can't get enough clearance to allow the safety to clear everything.
